Where to Work and Study in West Palm Beach

There is a real gap at both ends of the day in West Palm Beach. Before 9 AM almost nothing with WiFi is open. After 8 PM the libraries are shut, the chain coffee shops have closed, and your options for somewhere to sit with a laptop shrink to nearly zero. Lowkey Kava at 404 S Military Trail runs 7 AM to 2 AM, seven days a week, 365 days a year — the longest laptop-friendly hours in the city.

Working From Home, But Not At Home

If you work remotely, the problem usually isn’t the work. It’s the apartment. The same four walls, the laundry, the roommate’s calls, the slow slide into never quite starting and never quite stopping.

The usual escape is a coffee shop, and coffee shops have three problems for anyone actually trying to put in a day: they don’t open early enough, they get hostile about long stays, and by five o’clock you’re being stacked up with chairs.

We open at 7 AM and close at 2 AM. If you want to get three hours in before your first meeting, or you’d rather work 6 PM to midnight because that’s when your brain switches on, those hours are open here.

There is no cover charge, no minimum, and no time limit. Buy a drink, take a table, stay as long as you want. A 24 oz tea is $8 and will outlast most work sessions.

We’re roughly 20 minutes from Florida Atlantic University’s Boca campus, 12 from Palm Beach Atlantic and close to Palm Beach State College. During finals, campus study spaces fill by mid-afternoon and close long before the work is finished. We don’t.

Group projects are easier here than in a library, because talking is allowed. Weekday mornings and early afternoons are the quietest stretches of the week if you need to focus alone.

Why a Kava Bar Instead of a Coffee Shop?

The obvious answer is the hours. The less obvious one is the drink itself.

Our menu is caffeine-free — kava, kratom botanical teas and extract drinks, no coffee and no energy drinks. For reading, writing, editing, and reviewing notes — the bulk of most study sessions — it is a quiet room with long hours.

The honest caveat: kava is not a stimulant. If you need a hard caffeine edge to push through something, this is not that drink. What the bar does offer is somewhere open at the hours you actually need, which is usually the harder problem to solve.

• Students from Palm Beach Atlantic University, Palm Beach State College and Florida Atlantic University — particularly during finals, when the campus study spaces fill up and close before the work does.
• Remote workers and freelancers who want out of the house but don’t want to pay for a co-working desk or get pushed out at closing time.
• Service industry workers handling scheduling, invoicing, or coursework after a restaurant or bar shift ends, when almost nothing else is open.
• Night-shift workers using the 7 AM opening as their end-of-day stop rather than a morning start.
• People who aren’t drinking who want somewhere social to work that isn’t a bar serving alcohol.

Practical Notes Before You Come

It is a bar, not a library. There are a pool table, TVs and music, and Friday nights get loud — we run karaoke. If you need silence, the outdoor patio is generally the calmer option, and weekday mornings and early afternoons are the quietest stretches of the week. Wednesday pool tournaments and Thursday trivia bring energy into the room after about 8 PM.

Bring ID. Entry is 18+ for kava; kratom drinks are 21+. It is an alcohol-free venue.

Cheapest way to sit for a few hours: a 24 oz botanical tea is $8 and lasts. Any of our 28 in-house flavors can be added at no extra charge. If you time it to a happy hour — 7–8 AM, 12–1 PM, 5–7 PM or 12–1 AM — a double shell of kava is $6.

Common Questions

Can I take calls or do video meetings here?
On the covered patio, generally yes — it’s the quieter side and people take calls out there. Inside there is music, TVs and a pool table, so it is not the place for a client presentation. Weekday mornings are the calmest window if a call matters. Headphones and a patio table are the usual setup.

How long can I stay?
As long as you want. There is no time limit, no cover charge and no minimum. Buy something, take a table, work. Nobody is going to hover.

Are there enough outlets?
There are wall outlets throughout for laptops and phones. Like anywhere, the seats nearest them go first when it’s busy — bring a cable long enough to reach and you’ll be fine.

Is it quiet?
Depends entirely when you come. Weekday mornings and early afternoons are quiet. After about 8 PM it’s a bar — Wednesday pool tournament, Thursday trivia, Friday karaoke. If you want to work late in calm, Sunday through Tuesday nights are your window.

I’m looking for a coffee shop open late. Is this the same thing?
Close, with one difference: no caffeine. You get the same table, WiFi and outlets, for far longer hours — but you won’t be awake at 4 AM against your will. If you specifically need caffeine, this isn’t your spot.

Do I have to drink kava to work here?
No. Botanical teas, soda, juice, water and energy drinks are all on the menu. Plenty of people sit with a $6 tea for three hours.

Getting Here

Lowkey Kava is at 404 S Military Trail, West Palm Beach, FL 33415, about 10 minutes west of downtown and Clematis Street. From I-95 take the Southern Boulevard or Forest Hill Boulevard exit and head west to Military Trail. It’s roughly 12 minutes from Palm Beach Atlantic University, 10 from Greenacres, 12 from Lake Worth Beach and 15 from Wellington. Free parking in our own lot.
