West Palm Beach has one of the densest kava scenes in the country, which is great news and slightly overwhelming news at the same time. Seven bars serve the city proper, and they are not interchangeable — one is built for 7 AM before work, another for a downtown night out, another for bringing your dog. This guide covers all of them honestly, including ours.

1. Lowkey Kava

Open 7 AM to 2 AM, 365 days a year, holidays included. It's a standalone building rather than a storefront, which means a full-size bar, a pool table, gaming systems, a wall of ten big-screen TVs, a large outdoor patio with a brick courtyard, and its own parking lot.

Botanical teas are $6 for 16 oz and $8 for 24 oz all day, and happy hour four separate times a day (7–8 AM, 12–1 PM, 5–7 PM, 12–1 AM) with $6 double shells and $3 off extract drinks. There's also a run of weekly events — pool tournament Wednesday, trivia Thursday, karaoke Friday.

Worth knowing: it sits in the building that housed Tribal Kava, the first standalone kava bar in Palm Beach, so it's on historic ground for the local scene.

Pick it for Early mornings, late nights, cheap rounds, sports, pool, and anyone who wants a bar rather than a cafe.

2. Coastal Kava & Coffee

Genuinely one of the best-run kava bars in the area and the north anchor of the Military Trail corridor. What sets it apart is the coffee — a real espresso program alongside the kava, which almost nobody else does properly. Spacious room, a pool table, darts, open mic nights, and live music on weekends.

It's also the most welcoming option if you're bringing kids or a dog, which matters more than people expect when you're trying to find somewhere everyone can go.

Pick it for Kava and a proper latte in the same order, bringing family or the dog, live music.

3. Radical Root Kava Bar

The newest kava bar in the area and the closest one to us by postcode — both sits in 33415. Their own listing describes a relaxed lounge bar serving kava and botanical teas with pool tables. It is tucked into the Trafalgar Square plaza off Forest Hill Boulevard, so there is plenty of parking and a Walmart and a Chick-fil-A in the same lot if someone in your group wants food.

Worth saying plainly: they are very well reviewed, with a 5.0 average across 98 Google reviews at the time of writing. If you live in Greenacres or south Royal Palm, they are probably your closest option, and we would rather tell you that than pretend otherwise.

Pick it for A Greenacres local, pool, bringing the dog, and plaza parking.

4. Purple Lotus Kava Bar

255 Evernia St · Downtown waterfront

The downtown pick, and part of a small Florida chain with locations in Delray as well. Sits near the waterfront in a chill, low-lit space that's easy to lose a few hours in. Because it's downtown, you can fold it into a night that includes dinner and a walk along Clematis without moving your car.

The trade-off is the trade-off for all of downtown: you're parking in a garage or on the street, and it doesn't open until noon.

Pick it for A downtown night out, walkability, waterfront proximity.

5. Temanatu

Right in the heart of the Clematis Street strip, which makes it the most nightlife-adjacent kava bar in the city. Focused on quality kava strains and botanical teas, so it works as the sober alternative when everyone else on the block is drinking.

If your night is already happening downtown, this is the natural stop. If you're driving in from Wellington or Greenacres, the parking situation makes it a harder sell.

Pick it for A late night on Clematis without drinking, strain-focused kava.

6. The Hideout Kava & Tea

Known for a strong tea selection, quick service, and free wifi — which has quietly made it the go-to for people who want to actually get work done somewhere that isn't a coffee shop. Smaller and more low-key than the bar-format spots, in the best sense.

Pick it for Remote work, a quiet afternoon, tea over traditional kava.

7. Island Vibes Kava Bar

Part of a small local group with spots in Royal Palm Beach, Lake Worth, Delray, and Stuart. Relaxed island-themed rooms and a consistent menu across locations, which is genuinely useful if you move around the county — you know what you're getting.

Pick it for Consistency across locations, Okeechobee Blvd convenience.

8. Hakuna Makava

A smaller independent spot with lower price points and a neighborhood feel. Not the place for a big group night, but a solid low-key stop if you're nearby and want something unpretentious.

One thing to know before you drive downtown

The Hideout's Clematis Street location is closed for construction and relocating to 115 S Olive Ave. Check their own channels for a reopening date before heading there.

Two Scenes, Not One

The thing most guides miss: West Palm Beach's kava scene splits cleanly in two.

The Military Trail corridor (Lowkey, Coastal) is the suburban, drive-to, free-parking, stay-for-hours version. Bigger rooms, a pool table, patios, free parking.

Downtown (Purple Lotus, Temanatu, Hideout) is the walkable version — smaller spaces, folded into a night that includes other stops, paid parking.
